Bouquet Garni - Herb Blend

Bouquet Garni is a fancy French term for “garnished bouquet”. It’s a classic herb mixture used for preparing stocks, soups, casseroles, meats, and vegetables. (While the recipe below is not a traditional “bouquet garni”, it is full of flavor and suits the purpose.)

As most of you know we raise our own chickens. I regularly throw a chicken in the crock pot or in a pot on the stove to stew. Chicken tacos, chicken soups (like this one), and chicken casseroles (like this one) are a favorite around here so we eat a lot of chicken. We want it to have good flavor so I sprinkle a tablespoon of this magic over the top while it’s cooking!

It’s also great for broth! When I’m done cooking a chicken I debone it, put the main bones in a crockpot of water, and sprinkle about 1-2 tablespoons of this blend on top, and cook on low for 24 hours. (If I have extra celery, carrots, or onion laying around I’ll throw those in, too.) Amazing flavorful broth is the end result! You can also use it in soups and stews, so beef and pork work with this as well.
