Christmas Menu

Did anyone else flip their calendar over the other day and discover a full December calendar?  Phew!  It's all fun and busy and I love it!  So for today's post here's our Christmas menu!

First of all I have to tell you that Christmas Eve we will have my in-laws over and my brother-in-law.  You know what we eat?  Pizza!  Yep!  We order pizza!  It's been our tradition for years.  I love it!  My MIL makes some yummy cookies and brings crackers and cheese, and dip, and I make some desserts.  We use red paper plates, plastic cups, and paper napkins.  It's divine!  We can focus on the evening!  The kiddos usually get a movie from either the grandparents or their uncle so we watch that after food and gifts and Christmas Eve service.

Then Christmas morning I usually make Pillsbury cinnamon rolls.  I made some from a recipe for Thanksgiving morning.  They were delicious!  I'll post the recipe soon, I promise!

While the rolls are baking the kiddos open their stockings from us.  After breakfast we read from the book of Luke, pray together and then slowly one by one enjoy the gifts.  Our kiddos enjoy exchanging gifts (I'll share how we "shop" for them in a later post.) along with hugs and thank you's.  Then us big kids (my mom, my hubby, and I) pass out our gifts to the kiddos and each other.  It's a lot of fun.

Then we enjoy our afternoon meal:

Ham and Popeye (No, not pot pie...check it out, really!) (recipe HERE)

Smashed Potatoes (recipe HERE)
Green Beans and Bacon (recipe HERE)
Crock Pot Mac-n-Cheese (recipe HERE)
For hubby's sake I might make some Stove Top Pork stuffing.  Original, I know.  *wink*
Homemade Rolls  (recipe HERE)

Pie!  Pretty much a repeat of Thanksgiving!
Pumpkin Pie Squares (recipe HERE), Creamy Peach Pie (recipe HERE), a gluten free blueberry pie for my mom (I bought a gluten free crust mix...I'll try my hand at from scratch after the holidays.), and Blueberry and Cherry Pies (recipes HERE).  My original pie crust recipe is HERE, but I've found a new love.  I'll post that soon, too!  I'll have my little helpers in the kitchen, again!  That'll be fun! (We'll make them a few days before Christmas.)

After our feast we'll play games, take naps, play with our Christmas goodies, and enjoy each others' company.  Then later we'll nibble on left over ham and what-not.

Yep...that's pretty much it!  Isn't food bliss?  *sigh*

**Note**  I have at least one kiddo down with a bug as I write this (Thurs. afternoon).  I plan to post my answers to your questions on the "Just Ask" post for Saturday...unless I'm down for the count, too.  If you don't hear from me for a bit, you'll know why.  Pray for us, ya'll!  *smile*

November Menu Plan

I really love my BigOven recipe program!  It made menu planning a snap!  I got November's menu done in an hour or so.  I only include dinner because breakfast and lunch are up in the air each day.  We rotate between bagels (I shop at the bread outlet for inexpensive bagels), baked oatmeal, muffins, pancakes and eggs...you get the idea.  Once in a while I'll cave and we'll have cereal but my gang can down two boxes (easily) in one breakfast!  Lunch is usually left overs or cheese quesadillas or pb &j.

If you need a walk through of the BigOven program go to THIS TUTORIAL for more info.  Also, if you are interested in buying I have a "Buy BigOven" sort-of button on the side column.  If you'd click through that to buy, that'd be great!  Please and thank you!  : )

I also need to note that last month I had lofty goals of linking to each recipe here.  About 95% of them are on my blog and there is a search tool at the side bar.  If you could please search through there that would be wonderful!  Also, the (D) stand for dinner.  If I included something for breakfast and lunch there would be (B)'s and (L)'s.

Here you go!  (Click on the calendar to enlarge.)

October's Menu Plan

Behold the (tentative) October Menu Plan.
The great thing about BigOven is that I can swap a meal around without redoing the whole thing.
Then I just print out the new one!

You should be able to click on it to enlarge.  I'll post links to the recipes that have posted at some point this weekend.  Or you can search for them in the search bar if you don't want to wait for me.  : )

Menu Plan Monday -- Week of May 3

We have several days this week that three girlies will be at dance recital practice during dinner and they will need their dinner packed for them. They'll be eating sandwiches, yogurt, fruit and pretzels. Since I need to shuttle them to and from and run other errands in between I need to have dinner that's easy and ready to eat when I get home from getting them settled at their practices. The actual recitals make for odd eating times for us as well, so we're just playing it by ear. I have a plan but I'm flexible and willing to tweak my plan when need be. I'm also trying to use what I have on hand to make life a little easier.

Dinner: Pancakes, Baked Eggs, fruit, Sausage Rolls

Tuesday (May 4)

I have to let you in on a secret... I rarely stick 100% to the menu. I know...how horrible! I tweak the menu here and there...I switch nights, etc. You all probably think I serve the Parmesan Crusted Chicken every week! I think I've had it on the menu for three weeks now and never got to fixing it! I finally made it last week so you needn't worry about it being on here this week! Since my personal shopper (hee hee) was on spring break last week we didn't do much grocery shopping so we kind of just went with what we had on hand. Let's see if I can stick to the menu this week, shall we? Then again, I just received Gooseberry Patch's "Our Best Quick & Easy Recipes" filled with lots of yummy recipes that I plan on sharing with you! So I just might be tweaking the menu once again!

Easter Menu Plan

Our family started an odd tradition a few years ago. We go out to a Chinese Buffet for dinner on Easter. I know...you would think we'd have ham or lamb or something with all sorts of side dishes. Since I have to get up super early (to me anything before 7 is early but we're talkin' before 6!) to get everyone around for church activities I don't cook a meal. At. All. So we go out to lunch or is it considered dinner? Of all places to go on Easter for lunch-dinner-maybe supper(?) the Chinese Buffet is the least crowded! It's so nice! So the point I'm making is that I've got nothing for you. Nada. No big fancy menu for Easter (we usually eat PB & J that night-- if we're even hungry at all!). Zippo. But I'll link to some of my favorite dishes that, did I ever happen to cook for Easter, might make my list. ; )

Ham and Popeye
Grandma Fray's Mac-n-cheese
Smashed potatoes
Salad
Cherry Cinnamon Applesauce
Bread
